The Republic of the Air by owen-c The Republic of the Air by owen-c
Here is a PDF copy of my book, The Republic of the Air.

It is a series of travel essays from another world.

It is about 150 pages
However the stories are largely unrelated to each other, so you can read one of them at a time

Please check it out.

To read it please click the "Download File" button above and to the right... it confused me as well...

For more stories please visit [link]

I downloaded it a few days ago!

I love this image a lot! It reminds me of Escher's Relativity, if you are familiar with his work. I enjoy such art, or, as Inception would call them, "paradoxes". =D

Hm don't mind if I do. Been looking for some sci fi to read. Are you looking for serious input on it? I'm a literature student.

Cool, if you are interested in something with a sci-fi bent to it I recommend the "Under the Eye" chapter particularly.

I would love input on it, I considered it the final version but nothing is really final and it'd give me ideas of how to go about future stories as well.

It is pretty polished though I would have to say there were unnecessary amounts of description that stopped the story for a while. But that can be remedied and its nothing serious. I enjoyed it, had an air of mystery too, you do mystery well, keeps one intrigued. Oh congrats on getting it published too.

Thanks... but of course when I say "getting it published" I just mean releasing it myself on the blog. Glad that someone is reading it though

Oh well at least its out there for the public to see and enjoy. Its more than my jumble of scenes and characters in my computer. :D Are you actually looking to publish it with a company btw? These past days I've been looking at publishing houses and agents just out of curiosity.

Yeah, really the goal of all of it is to not have things locked away and never seen. I have been creating fictional worlds and such since I was a kid but have almost never released them in any form to the public (and a few ideas from these old things have been re-purposed to these new stories). That is why I even release every first draft and story sketch on my blog.

This is why it is good to write short stories I think, rather than to plan big, I just wrote one story after the other without much of an overall plan and before I know it I have written something the length of some short novels

I'm not thinking of publishing it professionally, I guess I do not have the patience to wade through a lot of rejection letters. In general it is rather an odd book and I am not sure how I would sell it or classify it into a genre. Though it's true that similar books to this one exist and I am heavily influenced by them. They would probably not like the fact that I have released it all online "first"

I've thought of making an actual book of it on Createspace just for fun, it is not very expensive at all, though no practical reason to do that.

I see. There's also feedbooks.com [link] I just found that site thanks to a friend. You can publish what you write there. A way to expose oneself. And you know you can use that book as a starting point, have people read it and have free access to it and gauge their reactions and see if you should write something similar later on and have an inkling of the amount of appeal it will have.
