I was looking at a lot of the architecture of Buddhist temples in Thailand the other day and thought they would be a great basis for sci-fi skyscrapers. And thus this was born as a quick diversion... I also preliminarily planned out another, larger image in this style; who knows if I will do it though.

I used to do a lot of scenes of this genre back in the day when my skill was not as it is today, so it's funny to see where it's different and where not...

The lighting was a really interesting part of this scene. I tried to plan it out like a real lighting person would (finding physical spots on the buildings and bridges where light fixtures would be placed).. rather than just arbitrarily throwing them around. Overall there are more than 250 lights in the scene, but there should really be more (as with most things, I sort of lost interest toward the end.)

Really beautiful, I love thai architecture and it really works well as a basis for a future city. Fantastic colours and shapes!

Thanks, yeah, I was looking up Thai architecture and saw the thing the central building is based on (which is actually a spire on the roof of a temple) and thought it would make a great sci-fi skyscraper. And the rest was made around that...
